Orthognatic Surgery
Orthognathic surgery corrects the profile of the face and malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth), and requires close collaboration with orthodontic specialists. Nowadays, the upper and/or lower jaw and/or the chin can be mobilised to change their position, with the objective of improving the appearance and function of these patients.
Benefits of the treatment
With this treatment, patients obtain a level of facial harmony and obvious functions (chewing, etc.) are restored or improved. This type of surgery has both aesthetic and functional results.
Medical-technical description
Through a series of cuts (osteotomies) made in the facial bones (accessed from inside the mouth and without scars) these can be mobilised and placed in a new position. Once in place, they are fixed with small titanium plates.
